HeliSkiSafari 2016 – Days 1-3

HeliSkiSafari-Days1-2_blog3How wonderful it is to be alone in the heart of the Bernese Alps…
After two days crossing the Valais Alps we arrived on the 3rd day at the foot of the legendary Eiger Northwall. All tourists and skiers have left us behind to quietly absorb the setting sun glowing red on the most beautiful mountain scenery – called “Alpenglühen” in Swiss-German.

We’ve been very fortunate with perfect weather conditions. Unfortunately, perfect weather does not always come with perfect snow conditions.

Day 1

Our maiden #HeliSkiSafari, kick-off with a day of full-on heli-skiing. With perfect weather, but less than perfect show conditions, we’ve had some challenging runs between the seracs and exiting valleys. However, the breath-taking views, unbeaten tracks and gourmet lunch compensated for that…

Day 2

On day 2 we exchanged the helicopter for muscle power and using our skins, we hiked for 3 hours up to #Wildhorn. This effort left us exhausted, but satisfied, around the dinner table in our mountain hideaway. Some sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi sessions also help to regenerate everybody for today’s dramatic glacier heli-skiing.

Day 3

Valley jumping from the Bernese Alps to Valais and back with a final, legendary run surrounded by steep granit walls.

There are 5 more day ahead, according to weather forecast all under a bluebird sky … what else will be in store for us?

Read more, soon…
